An Old Twist on Fruitcake
I have been buying Vintage Cookbooks, especially old spiral bound cookbooks from Women’s Garden Clubs, etc… This Sausage Cake recipe came from a Veterans of Foreign Wars little cookbook.
At first it sounded awful but upon researching I found that it has been compared to a dense fruitcake. Holiday Fruitcake is not something that everyone loves. Out of all the Fruitcake lovers in the world even less will go for Sausage Cake.
This recipe needs some tweaking. It forgets to mention that you need to drain the raisins. It leaves out important spices like cinnamon, cloves, allspice and coffee. Coffee seems to be a key ingredient. It is the only recipe that I have found that calls for a rum or butter sauce. Will try the recipe from http://www.justapinch.com which calls for maraschino cherries. Will also try the recipe list in http://www.allrecipes.com. I liked the post by http://www.acakesbakesinbrooklyn.com.
